The Gabonese Football Association (FEGAFOOT), Aaron Boupendza is dead, as per a statement released on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old forward, who most recently played for Zhejiang FC in China, reportedly fell from the 11th floor of his apartment building, the statement said.

“Boupendza is remembered as a great striker who made his mark during the African Cup of Nations in Cameroon,” FEGAFOOT noted in tribute.

Local television in Gabon reported that an official investigation is underway to determine how the incident occurred.

Boupendza had only recently transferred to the Chinese league in 2025. Before that, he had a short-lived spell with FC Cincinnati in the United States, despite initially signing a four-year contract. He moved on after a single season to play for Rapid Bucharest in Romania.

Since making his international debut in 2016, Boupendza had earned 35 caps with the Gabon national team, scoring eight goals.

Throughout his career, he also featured for clubs in various countries including France, Portugal, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia.
